Lapis

Every scrap of lapis in Egypt came six thousand kilometres by land from Badakhshan, and it was still ground into powder and laid across the face of a dead king. No stone was ever worth more trouble.

The fragrance is cool and mineral rather than floral: blue iris and juniper above, violet leaf and orris through the middle, ambergris and cashmere wood beneath. It wears close to the skin and stays there the quietest thing in the Gemstone range, and the one that lasts longest.
